Mahasamund is the state road to Odisha. The highway through the district carries freight between Raipur and Sambalpur, and the population on both sides of that border shops, works and trades across it without much regard for the line. It is a paddy district with dispersed cattle holdings, moderate yields and very little organised processing — what dairy demand exists is served either by loose milk or by packs trucked in from Raipur, and increasingly from the Odisha side as well.

That is an unusual position, and it is an advantage if it is designed for. A plant here has two retail markets within a comfortable morning radius instead of one, and it sits closer to the Odisha border towns than any Raipur plant does.
