A Market That Imports Most of What It Drinks
Assam is among the most import-dependent dairy markets in India. Local production covers a fraction of consumption, and a large share of the balance arrives as milk powder and packaged product hauled in along the Siliguri corridor — a single narrow land route carrying almost everything the region consumes. That dependency sets the price, the availability and the freshness of dairy across the state, and it is the commercial opening for anyone processing locally.
The demand side is unusually structured. Tea estates carry large resident workforces with institutional catering, and the Guwahati urban market has grown well ahead of local supply. Against that, the Brahmaputra floodplain imposes real engineering constraints — annual flooding, high humidity through a long monsoon, and site selection that has to be made against flood level rather than convenience. We would plan an Assam plant around reconstitution and local fresh production together, with civil design set by the river.
Proof We Carry Into Every Assam Project
Proof we carry into every Assam project: Our nearest completed work to Assam is in Jharkhand, where we executed NDDB dairy projects at Deoghar and Sahibganj — Sahibganj sits on the Ganga in the same eastern milk economy that feeds the corridor into the Northeast. We have also built across West Bengal, the state Assam connects through. The humidity, the monsoon programme and the riverine site conditions an Assam project runs into are ones our engineering and commissioning teams have dealt with on that ground.
Nationally, ATMAN Group has delivered dairy work across 21 states since 2008 — process design, dairy machinery and dairy equipment, dairy automation, installation, commissioning and dairy parts support, all under one contract.
