Test the Water Before You Buy the Land

Jajpur sits on Odisha’s chromite belt, and in parts of the Sukinda area mining has left a groundwater question that a food plant cannot treat as a detail. Chromium-bearing groundwater is documented in sections of this belt, it varies considerably from one location to another, and in a dairy plant water is not a service connection. It goes into CIP, into steam, into chilling circuits and into everything that contacts product. There are plots in this district where no economically treatable bore exists at all.

That inverts the normal project sequence. Instead of buying land and then arranging a water supply, we would test candidate sites first and let the water result help decide which plot to buy. Where a bore is unsuitable, the alternatives are a surface or piped municipal source with its own reliability questions, or treatment sized as a genuine process unit with the running cost that implies. Either way the decision belongs at the site-selection stage, because it is close to impossible to fix once the land is bought and the foundations are in.
